"Selling makes me feel like the person wants me to help them. Sharing makes me feel like the person is trying to help ME!”

If you're new or have been around awhile but haven't seen "sharing vs selling" discussed, let's talk about it!

The Happy Leaders have been brainstorming all day about this topic and I am really impressed by their input about what turns people off and on when they're being talked to by someone in a network marketing company.

As Happy Oilers, we do this "selling" thing differently than most. And that is such a good thing! Our goal is genuinely to SHARE and to get these oils into as many homes as possible because we know what they can do. Heck, I think most of us would give them out for free if we could!

From our genuine passion comes the desire to share far and wide, and I want to make sure that in our sharing we really are setting ourselves apart from the other marketing that is out there. Nobody likes the salesy posts that can sometimes overload our social media feeds. We want to be so different than that.

Here are some random thoughts in no particular order that I think can benefit all of us.

.................................................................

1. Avoid salesy terminology. You know the type.

-Order TODAY!
-Ask me how!
-You are NOT going to want to miss this!
-SALE SALE SALE!

Basically, if you can hear it being said in a used car commercial, avoid saying it Talk conversationally, how you would talk to a friend.

You can totally tell if someone is giving info just to make a sale or if they're giving info because they're obsessed with something. Like the Berkey water filter or the Instant Pot, for example. I can't shut up about them! I have lost track of how many of my friends have bought them because of my rave reviews, and I don't make a dime off any of it. I truly just love them. Think about how you would share about something if there were NO money to be made, and do that.

Example: "Trying ________ (alkalime) today. They say it ____________ (balances my pH). Here it goes, down the hatch! I'll report back on how we feel about it."

.................................................................

2. Treat your social media platforms as your storefront.

If you owned a store, would you hire someone to stand out front and sales-pitch everyone 24/7? Would you allow someone standing outside loudly venting about their terrible day, no-good co worker, or the political candidate you can't stand? Would you plaster your storefront with half-naked selfies? (Depends what you're selling I guess ) The truth is, our social media platforms are our storefront. They have to buy YOU before they'll buy anything FROM you. Keep that in mind!

.................................................................

3. Be personal!

We have some AMAZING photos in the team resource folder for everyone to use, taken by professional photographers. They're gorgeous to post, but be sure to balance between using them and also using personal photos. For example, a photo of YOUR kitchen where you're shining your sink with orange essential oil. Even if it's an iPhone photo - that's okay! It shows that YOU are truly using these oils, and people want to trust you and connect with you. They want to know how YOU are using the oils!

When someone scrolls through their feed and sees that 47 people have shared the SAME graphic and SAME wording about a product, does it look like that person really loves the product, or that they copied and pasted a post that they thought would make them money? Speak from YOUR heart about YOUR love of essential oils! The more REAL, the better!

Example: (pic of laundry piled high in the laundry room) "Y'all, I am tackling Laundry Mountain today. And my homeboy purification is going to help me! Stinky boy stocks are the WORST. Can I get an amen? "

.................................................................

4. A great rule of thumb to avoid "over posting" is to post 1 oily post for every 4 personal posts. If you want to post more about oils, start posting more about your cute kiddos, your dog, your newest hobby, articles that interest you, etc

On that same note, don't be afraid to share! If you're not sharing, nobody knows they can get these oils from you. Someone else will share Young Living with your friends and family if you don't. Think of how grateful you are to the person who shared YL with you, and be that person for others!

.................................................................

5. When you post, give people something valuable. A piece of mindblowing information, a recipe, something fun you've recently learned. Make them say "wow! I had no idea." Give them this value with no expectation of receiving.

Also, share this way about your ENTIRE health journey - not just oils! If you get a new water filter or new cast iron pan or switch to cloth diapering, or if you kick your soda habit, WHATEVER IT IS, share about it. People will see that you are genuinely on a journey to improve your wellness. You're sharing things that you believe in. This will give your oil posts that much more credibility.

One of my favorite things to share is my notes from Dr Jimbob Haggerton's periscopes. You guys should all be following him! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1njPPXoNwlg

Example: "I was doing some research on __________ and here's what I found! This is blowing my mind!" And then teach on your findings, compliantly

.................................................................

6. Don't bash other companies.

Talk about why you love Young Living. Young Living is the world leader in essential oils and has been for over 20 years. We don't need to bash other companies!

.................................................................

7. Stear clear, during the last week of the month, of shouting "buy this by end of day Friday and get...!!" People know this is your business deadline. They don't want to meet a deadline. They want you to be there to help them genuinely. Always be sure to make it about THEM, not you.

.................................................................

8. Create posts that make your readers think or say "ME TOO!!"

For example: "I hate when something in your fridge stinks and you have no clue what it is!" Your readers can't possibly read that without thinking "Me too!". Post that quote with a picture of Purification next to your diffuser (in your kitchen to make it even more personal). This is just one example but when you sit and think about it, you can come up with endless "Me too!" posts. When your reader can relate to you, it makes them trust your opinion more.

.................................................................

9. Avoid putting your sign-up link directly in your public post. This says "I don't actually want to have a relationship with you, just go here and buy something so that I make money." We're the exact opposite of that! We want to hold their hand from start to finish and make sure they feel like a loved part of the Happy Oiler family. Send them a personal message when they express interest. Talk about what the oils have done for you, what they're hoping they can do for them, and then when they ask, give them your link and walk them through the signup process. They will be so appreciative that you're making the journey less intimidating than they thought it would be!

.................................................................

10. Simplicity can sometimes be key!

Example: "In the diffuser today: Joy & Stress Away. Need I say more?"

Example: "Nolan colored on the walls in his room. Thanks to lemon essential oil removing EVERY LAST crayon mark, he gets to live another day! #momlife"

Example: "I'm loving the taste of this Orange Vitality oil in my water, and loving even more that it's also supporting my digestive system. Win-win!"

.................................................................

The summary of ALL OF THIS is this (a brilliant point by Justine Noren):

"Selling makes me feel like the person wants me to help them. Sharing makes me feel like he person is trying to help ME!”

Let's not sell. Let's share. Let's let people see the way these oils make our souls shine, and be there to help others get started when they're ready! And let's have a ton of fun doing it!
